Bring Out the Brooms, Cubs Sweep Bucs

Despite a poor start by Rich Hill, the Cubs took over the game late and won it thanks to a brilliant bullpen led by Jon Leiber who got his second well deserved win of the series. (Yeah, I'm kind of glad that he's coming out of the bullpen now, it's definately helped in two of the last three games.)

Despite scoring first for the fourth straight game, the Cubs also gave up that lead for the fourth straight game. The Cubs got a one run lead in the top of the first, but Rich Hill started poorly and gave the Bucs three runs right back in the bottom half of the inning.

Rich Hill struggled through the third, walking four and giving up the 3 runs in the first, but Jon Leiber came in in the fourth to bail him and the Cubs out. Leiber's 4 and 1/3 innings of shutout ball allowed the Cubs comeback, culminating in a 5 run 6th inning highlighted by two run homers by Geo Soto and Mike Fontenot.

Soto was definately the offensive star of the day, finishing a triple shy of the cycle and going 4-5 with two doubles and the homerun.

The Cubs first sweep of the season (and second straight series win) puts them at 6-3 for the season so far.

Up next is the Philadelphia Phillies. Carlos Zambrano will be taking the hill one day early as Jason Marquis has the flu. Brent Myers will go for the Phillies. First pitch scheduled for 6:05 CST.
